As I write this the remnants of VBS are strewn about the building… it looks like it was quite a party! And it was! We had a wonderful week! The energy of the kids is contagious. At times our Prayer Safari was a zoo! I watched the participants laughing, playing, crafting, singing, dancing and listening and I was grateful that they do so with such enthusiasm. I was grateful that Bullittsville Christian Church is here to provide the opportunity. It was great to see 8 of our youth providing leadership and assistance to make this week such a success. On Sunday night (the first night of VBS) I went home a little sad that with such a great program we only had 12 kids. As I was reflecting on this, God whispered , “Jesus started with 12 and that turned out okay!” Throughout the week our number grew a bit and I think all in all about 18 different kids joined the Safari. And we were all blessed!
VBS wrapping up and the July 4th weekend indicates that summer is in full swing. That is evident as we make the transition to our new leadership for our new fiscal year. You will note that we have the Congregational Meeting on Sunday, the 18th to elect the officers. We are also in the midst of securing leadership for the areas of ministry. We are still needing leadership for Christian Education, Property, and Evangelism. This are critical areas. Prayerfully consider if God wants to use you in this way. Remember this is to LEAD the area—–not do all of the work yourself!
As we celebrate the 4th of July, I hope all of us take time to pause and give thanks for the freedom we have in this great county. Yes, we have some big problems in this nation, but we still have so much for which to be thankful! As we celebrate our freedom and remember those who have fought for it, inspired it, and preserve it, let us not lose sight that it is not what we are free from, but what we are freed for. Let us use our place in this world as an opportunity to shine God’s light that one day all people on this earth would be free.
